Summertime Slowdown

The kids are on summer holidays, the days are long and hot, and summer brain is in full swing. Schedules are out the window and it’s late nights and late mornings all around. While I’m loving not packing lunches and turning off the alarm clock, I am showing signs of the no routine-ness of it all.

Where we are, it’s been exceptionally hot this summer, which has also led to a lot of inside time, which is not my favourite. I would much rather be enjoying summer outdoors, playing in the garden, hiking trails near our house, and playing with the kids and the dogs. On the upside, that’s meant a lot of reading time.

The other night, I finally dragged myself and one of the kids out for a walk. This view was the kick in the butt I needed to remember why I need to do that. What a view. Can’t get this inside!

Anyways, I am starting to crave the turn of the seasons, even though there is still a lot of summer left. My sweaters are waiting patiently in the closest and back-to-school shopping is looming. In the meantime, I have to remind myself to take in the summer moments when I can. It’s so easy to blink and miss it!
