I grew up with a mother that is a real gardener. She has a
green thumb. She knows ALL about plants, what zones they can live in, when to
plant, what to plant, how to space them – all of it. I did not inherit that
innate knowing of plants. I have killed so very many plants. Baskets, house
plants, vegetable gardens – basically any kind of plant, I can kill it. I don’t
mean to. I have excellent intentions. I am responsible. I swear! I have fours
kids and two dogs and manage pretty well there. But plants are another thing. When one of my sons was small, we were in a store and the
people behind us were buying some hanging baskets. He announced to everyone,
that, “My mom likes to buy plants like that, but she likes to die them!” Gah.
He wasn’t wrong. But, fast forward to this year and I planned and planted a
garden, have kept everything weeded and alive, and now my plants are thriving!
I cannot believe it. I have waited my entire life to claim this, and victory is
now mine.I have annuals and perennials. I have beautiful baskets and
planters, as well as an overflowing garden bed that looks like an English country
garden. I have caught the gardening bug. At least outdoors. Indoors, I have a
couple of cacti that have learned to survive. They are Tom and Jerry and I wouldn’t
say they are thriving. They are strong and sturdy.Small victory, but I’ll take it. I hope to bring you updates
on my gardening skills. Tips are certainly appreciated!
