I am not a collector, but…

I have never really had the follow-through to really become a collector. My husband is an excellent collector. My daughter has always been a collector. I just can’t seem to get the hang of it. That being said, I have always had one thing that I would consider a collection of sorts, but it’s not tangible. I love, love, LOVE to travel. I feel like I get to tick a box whenever I visit a new place. In my mind, it’s like collecting, but I can’t quite feel like it’s akin to a physical collection of things. I see other people get such joy from their collections, and I really wanted to give one a go.

Last time we were in Hawaii, I stopped in a Starbucks and found a cute Hawaii mug which I picked up. I discovered that they sell “Been There” mugs in all of their stores. What? Coffee, travel, and an easy collection!? I think we have a winner! I’m in. Fast forward to this year and I’ve collected mugs from nearby places and far places. I am enjoying collecting these mugs, which are also great mugs that I can use everyday. I can dispose of old, ugly mugs – saving the special ones, of course.

From Paris and Rome to Florida and Montana, I’ve picked up a few new ones that I am SO excited about. I’m trying to discover the joy in collecting, and I think it’s going pretty well. Most recently, my husband and I stood in line to get the holy grail Pike Place Starbucks mug, which was actually kind of fun to acquire. I don’t see myself as a hardcore collector, but I think I’ve gleaned some of that collecting energy.

Have you found any easy to get into collections?
